Oilbook presents itself as a distinctive painting software, striving to emulate the essence of traditional oil painting. Users will appreciate the realistic brush strokes, capturing the fluidity and diffusion typical of actual paint applications.

Upon practical use, it becomes evident that while the painting effects may not entirely replicate authentic oil painting, they do succeed in producing artworks featuring a distinctive liquid texture. For optimal results, it is advisable to commence with a thick brush for laying down background colors, followed by a finer brush for detailing.

The software allows for adjustments to the default brush settings, enabling users to modify bristle counts and brush sizes. Additionally, the fluidity of pigments can be fine-tuned, offering further customization through parameters such as texture, size, point distance, hardness, direction, and opacity. Experimenting with a reduced 'Bristle Count' occasionally yields improved outcomes, while lowering the hardness setting of some brushes—particularly to 0—can enhance their effectiveness.

Oilbook supports multiple undo and redo actions, enhancing the workflow for users. An array of oil painting texture color presets is available, each with adjustable intensity to complement individual projects. The software provides essential functionalities such as color selection, eraser tools, canvas clearing options, full-screen mode toggling, project saving capabilities, and archiving options. Users can easily save their work to their photo albums or share it with others. Notably, in Apple Pencil mode, stroke thickness adjusts in real time according to pressure applied. A comprehensive user guide is accessible within the settings page for additional support.
